Voter Registration for Wounded Warriors: S. 3308, the "Veterans Voter Support Act"
A 9/15/2008 Senate Rules & Administration Committee Hearing with testimony by Lisa Danetz, Demos Senior Counsel
Washington, DC--On Monday, September 15, 2008, the Senate Rules and Administration Committee will hold a hearing on S. 3308, a bill that would require Veterans Affairs facilities to allow nonpartisan voter registration drives and agree to any state request that it offer voter registration at its facilities under the National Voter Registration Act.
This hearing comes a week after Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary James Peake reversed a decision issued earlier this year prohibiting third party voter registration drives at VA offices.
Lisa Danetz, Senior Counsel at Demos, a national public policy and voting rights center that has been leading a national effort to promote voter registration through VA offices, will testify in support of S. 3308 at the Rules Committee Hearing.
Date/Time: Monday, September 15, 2008, 11:00 a.m.
Location: SR-301, Russell Senate Office Building
Witnesses:
--Paul Hutter, Office of General Counsel, Department of Veterans Affairs
--Paul Sullivan, Executive Director, Veterans for Common Sense
